Trailmark Renovation – St. Johns, FL

A Brief Overview

In mid-2022, a family purchased a charming home that suited their needs in many ways, except for one major drawback: the kitchen! It was clear from the start that the space wouldn’t work for their active lifestyle and love of cooking. With a poorly placed door leading to the master suite and an awkward kitchen layout, the homeowners knew it was time for a renovation.

the problem

The family’s dream was to transform their kitchen into a functional and inviting space that could serve as the heart of their home. The wife, an avid cook, envisioned a large island that could accommodate her culinary endeavors and provide plenty of room for family gatherings. However, the existing island was too close to the refrigerator wall, making the space feel cramped and difficult to navigate. Additionally, the door to the master suite, located at the end of the kitchen, needed to be moved to improve the layout.

the plan

To bring this vision to life, the team developed a comprehensive plan. Key elements included:

  • Relocating the master suite door: The original door was moved and replaced with a grand double-door entry, enhancing the overall flow and elegance of the space.
  • Extending the kitchen: This allowed for the addition of a nearly 100-square-foot island, the star of the new kitchen.
  • Adjusting the island placement: By moving the island one foot away from the refrigerator wall, we created a more open and functional layout.
  • Repairing and painting: After relocating the master suite door, we repaired the carpet and painted the affected wall to seamlessly blend with the existing space.

the build back

The remodeled kitchen is now a bright, spacious, and functional space that perfectly suits the family’s needs. The nearly 100-square-foot island serves as a centerpiece for cooking, entertaining, and everyday life. The new layout offers ample space for movement, while the high-end finishes and thoughtful details elevate the room’s aesthetic.

With the addition of Sherwin Williams Duration paint in City Loft on the walls, the kitchen exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere. The homeowners couldn’t be happier with their transformed space, which has truly become the heart of their home.

the design

The homeowners’ kitchen remodel included a mix of practical and luxurious touches to make the space truly special:

  • Cabinetry: We installed ProCraft Cabinetry Liberty Shaker White cabinets for the main kitchen and Liberty Shaker Ashen for the island, creating a stunning contrast.
  • Countertops: The island and surrounding counters were topped with Calacatta Gold Nuevo quartz, adding elegance and durability.
  • Lighting: Two new pendant lights were added above the island to match the existing fixtures, providing both style and functionality.
  • Faucet and sink: A Moen Sleek 1.5 GPM Single Hole Pull Down Kitchen Faucet with a motion-activated feature and an air switch for the garbage disposal added a touch of modern convenience.
  • Appliances: The existing appliances were reused, but we added a new range hood and moved the gas line to accommodate the repositioned range.
  • Custom storage: A cool utensil roll-out drawer was added, making it easy to access cooking essentials.
